Online Art therapy
What is Art therapy?
Art therapy is a form of therapy which introduces the use of art, artmaking and materials along side the verbal component of therapy.
It is non-directive meaning each session offers time and space to speak as much or as little and to use any art materials you may wish. There is no obligation to make art in session and instead we work with you and the subjects you wish to bring into the therapy room.
Art isn’t restricted to the things you make in session, it can be explored through your creations, through the art we love to experience (including video games, movies, books and all sort of media.) and through your words where metaphors and imagery can help make things which are difficult to understand more clear.
What are are benefits of this style of therapy?
Bringing the art making into the session can be used to create distance in order to observe and be curious about some of the things you may want to work with. This can give our brains the space it needs in order to process things which may be difficult or intellectualised.
Art making engages with different parts of the brain and can bring out parts of ourselves which have been deeply hidden or locked away.
How does this work online?
Working online can create different dimensions to the therapy work. In my experience it can give a person more feeling of control of the therapy. You choose the space you would like to invite me into. You choose the materials you would like to have in the space and if you would like to show me your art making or keep it private.
